NorwayJeff and I arrived in Bergen, Norway and quickly wished we had more time to spend there. We only had one day and spent it shopping in the outdoor market, riding the furnicular, visiting the aquarium, along with general sightseeing. We fit in one quick hike on Mt. Floyen but really wished we had at least one more day to hike. We then took a ferry through the fjords to stay in Balestrand, Sognefjorden. Our hotel, the Kvikne's, was old and beautiful and sat in the heart of the fjords. They gave us the best room in the place with a patio in the center of the hotel, overlooking the water. We sat every night and watched the porpoises play. Dinner was a huge buffet including seafood and great desserts. The first day in Balestrand we rented a car from the hotel and drove for 2 hours to get to the Jostedal National Park to hike the Nigardsbreen glacier. What an experience! I now truly see the need to stop global warming along with the melting of the glaciers. Our guide, Thore, did a great job touring us over the glacier for about 2 hours. From Balestrand we took another ferry to Flam where we caught the famous Flam railway. This train took us 863 meters up to the town of Myrdal. The views were spectacular with numerous waterfalls along the way. Once in Myrdal we took a high speed train to Oslo. Once in Oslo we visited the Nobel Peace Center and the Holocaust museum. We spent one evening in a piano bar where we were treated like famous Americans. From Oslo we flew to Stockholm, Sweden... to be continued. Sorry there are so many pages of photos.
